Biography

Stephanie Tokarz, soprano

Soprano Stephanie Tokarz is a performer, educator, and arts leader based in Bloomington, Indiana. A doctoral student at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, she recently appeared as the Sorceress in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas with MIOpera and as the Mother Abbess in The Sound of Music.

Her operatic credits include Madame Lidoine in Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites with Indiana University Opera Theater, Princess Ida in Gilbert and Sullivan's Princess Ida, and the Sorceress in Dido and Aeneas. As a concert soloist she has been featured with the Bloomington Chamber Singers in Brahms's Liebeslieder Waltzes and Craig Hella Johnson's Considering Matthew Shepard.

Equally at home in the recital hall, Stephanie holds a deep love for art song — from the lush lines of Strauss and Wagner to the colors of Schoenberg and Duparc. She is a District Winner of the Metropolitan Opera's Laffont Competition (Kansas City) and a recipient of the National Society of Arts and Letters award.

Alongside performing, Stephanie is a devoted teacher and community builder. She maintains a private voice studio, co-founded Bloomington's Sanctuary Series, and has produced benefit concerts supporting the Cancer Support Community. Her teaching is grounded in healthy vocal technique, curiosity, and compassionate mentorship.
